New Aldi notebook with 1.2 GHz processor
On February 26th, a new notebook will be available in the northern branches of the supermarket chain Aldi. The Medion Notebook, called Platinum MD 9703, is powered by an Intel Pentium III 1.2GHz processor. The image is brought to the 14.1 inch TFT-XGA display by an ATI Mobiliy Radeon M6P graphics chip.
The notebook is also equipped with a combined DVD-Rom/CD-R drive, a floppy disk drive, a 30 GB hard drive from Hitatchi and a RAM of 256 MB, which can be expanded to 512 MB. The connection to the outside world can be established either with a 10/100Mbit Fast Ethernet Lan adapter or the also integrated 56k data fax modem. You can also contact the outside world via the new FireWire IEEE 1394 interface. A 16-bit 3D stereo sound chip and a Sanyo lithium-ion battery, as well as an external power supply, complete the offer. Windows XP Home Edition is preinstalled as the operating system, the Platinum MD 9703 includes Microsoft Word XP, Microsoft Autoroute 2002, the Encarta 2002, Picture It! 2002, as well as PowerDVD from CyberLink and other software from CyberLink. The Aldi notebook, including a 2-year guarantee, costs 1699 euros. It is not yet known when and whether the southern branches will also offer a notebook.
