MSI HydroGen X38 arrived
Yesterday the postman handed over a rather heavy package. Inside was the MSI Hydrogen X38 with an Intel X38 chipset (code name Bearlake-X)! The MSI Hydrogen X38 can be seen as the direct opponent of the Asus Maximus , which can also be connected to a water cooling system in two versions.
After unpacking it became clear where the relatively high weight came from originates. The rather massive heat sinks on the south and north bridges and on the power supply for the processor provide a lot of weight. The southbridge cooler and the cooler of the CPU power supply are provided with threads into which a water cooling can be connected. The copper pipes do not house a heat pipe like the Asus Maximus , but are water pipes.
Otherwise MSI uses re selected components. One of the two Gigabit LAN chips is an Intel 82566; a Marvell 88SE6111 and a Silicon Image SiI5723 are available for SATA/PATA. In addition to many SMD LEDs for the various states of the components, there is also a four-digit LED display available at the bottom left for tracking the post, which comments on the individual states during the POST. In addition to the built-in ALC888-7.1-HD sound chip from Realtek, there is an X-Fi sound card with PCIe connection in the box.
The MSI HydroGen X38 is already listed on 'Geizhals.at' and is there for generous 290 euros traded and is immediately available.
