MP3 popularity continues to grow
Not least because of the still free alternatives to Napster, the popularity of the MP3 format continues to grow. In a survey by Marketagent.com, 56 percent of Internet users in Germany said they had already downloaded music from the Internet.
The most popular media for music consumption are still CDs with 86.6 percent and radio with 80.9 percent. With a share of 42 percent, MP3s are in third place. In fourth place are concert visits (25%) and just behind audio streams from the Internet (21.4%). It should be noted, however, that there are quite clear differences between the age groups, because MP3s and radio are synonymous for 14 to 19 year olds. When it comes to purchasing music, CDs are still clearly in first place (78.5%), followed by DVDs (11.9%) and videos (5.3%), with the most recently purchased sound carrier being asked. Half of the respondents stated that they had already bought CDs, MCs, DVDs or music videos online, while six percent had not bought any sound carriers in the last year.
