Mobile Pentium III with 1GHz is coming
At the Microprocessor Forum 2000, Intel announced that it would publish new Mobile Pentium III processors with a clock frequency of more than 1GHz, which should guarantee a longer battery life thanks to a lower supply voltage for the CPU.
Beginning In 2001, Low Voltage Mobile Pentium III CPUs with a clock rate of 500 MHz and a voltage of just 1 volt are to be offered. As early as the first half of 2001, Intel plans to offer the Mobile Pentium III with a clock frequency of 1 GHz and a core voltage of 1.7 volts, which will, however, still be manufactured in 0.18 µm. With the switch to the 0.13 µm manufacturing process in mid-2001, Mobile Pentium III processors with more than 1 GHz and a core voltage below 1 volt are on Intel's roadmap.
