Microsoft's Xbox scratches CDs and DVDs
According to a report from Japan, game CDs and DVDs can be scratched by the Xbox. Microsoft Japan has announced that it will replace the scratched disk and the Xbox free of charge. The scratches can be caused by improperly inserting the data carrier, by the Xbox drawer but also by the data carrier itself.
Microsoft Japan itself, however, did not want to provide any information, but without further inquiries, promised the consoles quickly and unbureaucratically to exchange. However, the data carrier should only be scratched at the edge, an area in which no data is stored anyway. If only because of the risk of contamination from fingerprints when touching the CDs/DVDs, no data is saved on the outer 12 millimeters. According to Microsoft, however, the problem of scratching the data carrier has no effect on the Xbox launch in Germany on March 15th.
