Microsoft with more sales, but less profit
Microsoft was able to post earnings in the past first fiscal quarter with 2.9 billion US dollars or 43 cents per share less than in the previous quarter. The forecasts (39 cents per share) could, however, be exceeded by 4 cents.
But if you do that through investments Including losses incurred by various companies, that leaves only $ 1.28 billion or 23 cents per share in profit. In the same period of the previous year this was still 40 cents per share. Sales, however, could be increased by a good 6 percent from 5.77 billion US dollars in the same quarter of the previous year to 6.13 billion US dollars. Above all, Microsoft owes these figures to the Asian market with 104 million US dollars more sales, since sales in Europe, Africa and the Middle East only increased by 20 million US dollars. The shareholders on Wall Street are disappointed with the decline in sales compared to the previous quarter, which at the time was still 6.58 billion US dollars. Microsoft has drawn conclusions from this balance sheet and has revised its expectations for the second quarter of the current fiscal year downwards, despite the release of Xbox, Windows XP and .Net products. Revenues are now said to be between $ 7.1 and 7.3 billion, while profits are expected to be between $ 2.8 and 2.9 billion. However, some analysts remain skeptical as they fear delays in launching these products due to delivery problems.
