Microsoft increases profit

Microsoft was able to increase its sales in the first quarter 2001 compared to the same period in the previous year by 14 percent from 5.66 billion US dollars to 6.46 billion US dollars. Earnings are $ 2.45 billion and earnings per share are $ 0.44.

Microsoft commented on these numbers with the following words: 'The results were very strong in all business areas. Even better than we expected. Especially with the great success of Windows 2000 Professional and the increasing demand for our' .NET Enterprise servers 'from business customers, we were very satisfied. Despite this good quarter, we will continue to closely monitor the economic situation and its impact on business and consumers.'

Furthermore, Microsoft announced that Windows 2000 had approx. 35 percent of all computers with 32-bit operating systems sold in the 1st quarter of 2001 were included. In the previous quarter, the share was only 31 percent.
