Microsoft code-named Freon, an Xbox with extras

Microsoft's entry into the highly competitive console market was certainly not as successful as the group itself would have liked. However, with almost 3.5 million game consoles, it was at least possible to steal some market share from the competition and will not let up in the future either. div>

With an Xbox that has been expanded by a few extras and is currently in development under the code name Freon, you want to move your own console more into the focus of every living room. In addition to the usual gaming functions, Freon should offer television quality, such as video recording on the Xbox's own hard drive, or pausing a television program. However, in this case Microsoft would most likely have to build a slightly larger hard drive into the new Xbox. According to the Redmond giant, such a device will cost around 500 US dollars, which can be used to eliminate the Xbox's biggest disadvantage; the loss that Microsoft has to accept with every console sold to increase market share.

However, at this point in time it is questionable whether the Freon project will ever be ready for production. The only thing that is certain is that Microsoft plans to bring a slightly redesigned Xbox onto the market next year, or not until 2004. On the other hand, Microsoft does not intend to take the next big step with “Xbox Next” until 2005 or 2006.
