Media Player 8 for Windows XP only
Microsoft will only offer Media Player 8 for the new Windows XP operating system. It will no longer work on Windows 95, 98, Me, or 2000. So if you want to benefit from the latest streaming technology, Microsoft will force you to upgrade to Windows XP.
The software giant justifies this step with the fact that some features of Media Player 8 are only available with Windows XP are accomplished. This includes, for example, CD burning and DVD playback. Why Microsoft doesn't simply deactivate these features when using the new Media Player on another Windows version will probably remain Microsoft's secret.
