Matrox plans to launch the G550
According to rumors, the long-established graphics card manufacturer Matrox will surprisingly present their latest work, the G550, already next week. The chip officially represents the successor to the G450 and comes (speculatively) with the following innovations and features on the market:
Transformation and Lighting Engine (T&L), two render pipelines, support for 128 bit DDR-SDRAM, 32 MB RAM, 360 MHz RAMDAC and approx. 200 to 250 MHz core clock. At first glance, this data suggests great potential, but the question is whether Matrox wants to compete with nVidia at all, or whether it will continue to attract customers in the office area. What the card really does, Matrox will be able to present to the press in a few days.
