Macromedia is suing Adobe

Allegedly, Adobe is violating Macromedia's patented techniques in its software, which is why Macromedia wants to seek a suspension of sales and a previously undisclosed amount of damages in the US federal court.

The dispute is not just about Adobe Photoshop, especially Adobe GoLive, an HTML editor in which Adobe allegedly infringes patents that Macromedia has held since 1998. The disputes began in August 2000 when Adobe sued Macromedia for certain windowing technologies in Macromedia Fireworks and Macromedia Flash 5.0, which Adobe patented in 1996. A few weeks later, Macromedia had filed a counterclaim.
