KT333, KT333A and K8HTB: VIA's new AMD chipsets

KT333, KT333A and K8HTB: VIA's new AMD chipsets

Hard Tecs 4U has new information on VIA's future chipsets for AMD platforms for the first half of 2002. On the one hand there is the VIA KT333 for AMD Athlon/Duron, which should come up with the following specifications:

  • Production: 1st quarter 2002
  • FrontSideBus: 100 and 133 MHz DDR (max. 2.5 GB/sec)
  • Memory support: DDR266 and DDR333 (max. 2.5 GB/sec)
  • V-Link with 266 MB/sec
  • AGP 2x, 4x

The VIA KT333A, which is also new and intended for AMD Athlon/Duron, will have the following features:

  • Production: 2nd quarter 2002
  • FrontSideBus: 100 and 133 MHz DDR (max. 2.5 GB/sec)
  • Memory support: DDR266 and DDR333 (max. 2 , 5 GB/sec)
  • V-Link with 533 MB/sec
  • AGP 2x, 4x, 8x
  • a mobile version KM333 with S3 'Zoetrope' Graphics core in the 2nd quarter of 2002

The VIA K8HTB is intended for AMD's hammer:

  • Production: 2./3. Quarter 2002
  • V-Link with 533 MB/sec
  • AGP 2x, 4x, 8x

Apparently, more data about the first Hammer chipset has not yet been released. The other chipsets are more of the expected and not much of a surprise. By increasing the memory clock to 166MHz DDR, many expect that AMD will follow suit and also raise the front side bus of its processors to 166MHz DDR.

Actually, Kentron's new QBM memory technology with the KT333 was also in Connected, but so far it has not appeared. If it were to be used, however, the available bandwidth of the main memory would double again. The colleagues from Hard Tecs 4U apparently have no more detailed information yet.
