Joke entry in the Microsoft database
While browsing the Microsoft download pages, I came across an interesting entry. If you select download archive as Windows 98 operating system and sort all product names chronologically, a program with the name Dog 6.0 is listed at the top.
The only unusual thing about it is that the release date of this 'download' is dated June 20th, 2001. The download link leads to a page that does not exist. Our research has shown that MS Dog 6.0 is the spoof of MS Dos 6.0, as this website from 1994 and this newsgroup post show. However, since this is not an official Microsoft name for the operating system, it is quite surprising what this entry is actually doing in a Microsoft database. Were hackers at work here, or was a Microsoft employee just kidding himself? Another secret of the universe that will probably never be solved :-)
