Itanium as a new brand name at Intel
Intel plans to present its 64-bit CPU called Itanium (code name 'McKinley') at the Intel Developer Forum in San Jose on Tuesday. The design of the CPU is now complete.
The name Itanium, like the current name Pentium, is to become the brand name for all 64-bit processors from Intel. The 64-bit server processor with the code name 'Madison' is now also integrated into the Itanium family. At the moment, many server manufacturers are still waiting to get started with the IA-64 architecture until McKinley is available. However, this will probably not be introduced before 2002.
