Internet access: 600 times faster than ISDN
Advent Networks, an American company, is near the completion of a new Internet connection technology. The maximum speed is 40 Mbit per second, which means 600 times the ISDN speed.
The technology is still in the test stage, but experts see it as solid and easy to implement. Similar to DSL, the cable is divided into different channels. But if Internet providers want to offer this technology to their customers, they have to greatly expand their own connection to the Internet. Another obstacle appears to be the current US cable modem standard, as the new technology does not appear to be compatible with this standard. In Europe, however, the cable network is not yet widespread, which should make the introduction of this technology much easier in this country.
