Intel's P4 soon with DDR333 support
As announced at the IDF developer conference, the Pentium 4 chipsets from Intel will support DDR333 memory this year. At least according to company spokesman Bill Lezinski, who was optimistic that it should be ready in September.
Although the recently introduced chipsets i845G, i845E and i845GL are already DDR333 compatible, they are not officially approved by Intel for this. Intel now wants to catch up with the new DDR333-capable chipsets. But that also means that the new chipsets, i845G, i845E and i845GL, are hardly available, they are already outdated and no longer state-of-the-art. This fact was also criticized by Taiwanese mainboard manufacturers, who complained that the mainboards could not be bought quickly enough and that they had to be sold at spot prices. In some cases, chipsets cannot be installed at the speed that Intel is bringing them onto the market.
