Intel with poor quarterly results

The processor giant Intel published its quarterly report for the first quarter of 2001 yesterday. According to these figures, a profit of only 485 million US dollars was posted in this period, which means a decrease of 82 percent compared to the profit of the first quarter in the year 2000!>

However, these figures also include special charges, such as costs for company acquisitions. If you ignore this, the result for the first quarter of 2001 was a profit of 1.1 billion US dollars, which corresponds to 'only' a minus of 64 percent compared to the same period last year. Sales fell by 16 percent to 6.7 billion US dollars.

For the 2nd quarter of 2001, Intel does not expect the situation to improve. Projected revenue for this period is $ 6.2 billion to $ 6.8 billion. Last but not least, the price war on the processor market is one of the reasons for these bad numbers. Nevertheless, Intel plans to invest around 4.2 billion US dollars in research and development of new technologies throughout 2001.
