Intel wants to cut 4000 jobs

The chip manufacturer Intel presented its quarterly results 2/2002 yesterday. Accordingly, revenues of $ 446 million were below expectations of $ 620 million. Compared to the first quarter, profit fell by 52%, but was 128% above quarter 2/2001.

With total sales of a good 6.3 billion dollars, the 'Intel Architecture Business' division alone ( CPUs, motherboards, chipsets) for profit. Here Intel was able to bring in a total of 1.36 billion dollars. The 'Communications Group' (network components) and Wireless Communications and Computing Group (flash memory), however, drove losses of 127 million and 498 million dollars, respectively. In order to reduce the expenses of $ 2.1 billion expected for the third quarter, among other things, Intel is now planning to cut up to 4,000 jobs worldwide.
