Test system

The new processor from Intel was able to prove itself on several platforms. In addition to the tried and tested Asus P4T533, which was allowed to compete with 512 MB 32Bit Rambus from Samsung, this time the new P4PE with i845PE and now official DDR333 support was also used. 512MB Corsair XMS3500 served as memory.

For the processors from AMD the Asus A7V333 was used with FSB133 processors , The performance recently presented Athlon XP2700 + and 2800+ with FSB166, on the other hand, was only able to fully elicit the EPoX 8K3A +, which is why we opted fordecided on two different test platforms.

The onboard components of our different test platforms such as RAID, Audio or USB2.0 have been deactivated. In some tests, some components were activated if necessary for the test. Since our A7V333 was a bit faster with activated onboard Firewire for no apparent reason, so without, we decided to activate this function for once.

As our usual operating system, Windows XP Professional came in English Original version used, which was activated on the respective platforms after installation. Our very reliable Asus V8460 with GeForce4 Ti4600 was used as the graphics card.

AlsoWe spared no effort in this test to examine the performance of the new processors from as many angles as possible. However, we decided to take SPEC Viewperf 7.0 out of the comparison, as two real applications from the 3D rendering area were already represented with Cinema 4D XL R7 and Lightwave 7.5. A new addition is the demo of the shooter Unreal Tournament 2003.
