Intel Pentium 4 2.2 GHz and AthlonXP 2000+ in the test: The battle of the titans

Magic Music Maker

In order not to look at the audio encoding too one-sidedly, the Magic Music Maker was used in this comparison test. Fortunately for the Pentium 4, it offers full SS2 support. We have also chosen the 200 MB WAV file that was already used by Lame. In addition to MP3s (high quality, 320 kBit, variable bit rate), we left the programalso generate MP3Pro (320 kBit, variable bit rate) files. However, the latter was taken over by a different codec. The following graphics illustrate the small but subtle differences that result when encoding.

As we can see it has now become a double victory for the processors from Intel. The processors from AMD are a bit behind. When it comes to creating MP3Pro, which is certainly not nearly as popular as the MP3 format, the Athlon XP is once again leading.

As we can see, this time even the Athlon XP 1900+ is faster than the Pentium4 with its 2.2 GHz , the 2.0 GHz, on the other hand, seems a bit behind. Due to the greater importance of MP3, the Pentium4 can win this test, but the result is different when using a different codec or a different optimization.
