Intel Pentium 4 2.2 GHz and AthlonXP 2000+ in the test: The battle of the titans

3DMark 2001 (SE)

If there is currently a benchmark that repeatedly serves as the showcase program has to represent the performance of its own computer, then this is certainly 3DMark 2001. To show any differences in the processor optimization, we tested both with 3DMark 2001 and with its successor, 3DMark 2001 SE.

As we can see, the Pentium 4 and Athlon XP are in the original version of the benchmark almost immediately. The deviation from one point can be neglected here. This picture changes slightly in the revised version of 3DMark 2001. Now the Pentium 4 2.2 GHz was able to move to the top of the test field. The Pentium 2.0 GHz was also able to trump the Athlon XP 1800+. From a theoretical point of view, however, it seems that the Athlon XP would be the better choice with the same clock rating (i.e. Pentium 4 2.0 GHz compared to the Athlon XP 2000+). The extent to which this result should be confirmed later will be shown later.
