Intel is subject to VIA in the case of 'Fast Writes'

The fact that Intel and VIA have often got into each other shouldn't be news since the VIA P4X266 was announced. Unlike in this extremely explosive case, however, a judge's verdict has now been reached in a long-running dispute.

Intel had accused VIA of using the 'Fast Writes Protocol' in the chipsets from KT133 (AMD) and Apollo Pro133A (Intel) violates existing patents because the standard is an extension of the AGP protocol developed by Intel. The accusation has now been rejected. VIA may continue to use the feature that ensures faster transfer rates of geometry data directly between the CPU and graphics processor without license fees or compensation payments.
