Intel confirms price cut
As we already reported, Intel wants to massively strengthen its dominance on the CPU market with its P4 1.7GHz by means of low prices. As it became known today, other processors will also benefit from the price reductions. From April 29th, all P4 models will be sold to dealers for half the price.
It will the P4 1.5GHz only cost 256 U $ instead of 519 U $. The prices for the P4 1.4GHz and the 1.3GHz will be revised down from 375 U $ and 268 U $ respectively to 193 U $. As reported, the top model with 1.7 GHz will be sent to dealers for 352 U $. The prices apply from April 29, 2001 for manufacturers and resellers for orders of 1000 pieces. A certain curiosity is achieved by the fact that the prices for the PIII models are not reduced. So it can happen that you get a P4 CPU for the price of a PIII processor. Intel is undoubtedly trying to push the sales of the P4 properly. From mid-May the first P4 1.5GHz computers with good equipment will be available for less than DM 2000.
