Intel completely discontinues Socket 423 Pentium 4

The world's largest processor manufacturer Intel announced today that the old Pentium 4 series for the Socket 423, as well as the Pentium 4 for the Socket 478 with a clock rate of 2.0 GHz and the Willamette Core, which is still in 0, 18µm has been removed from the product portfolio.

The last delivery of the processors will take place on June 13, 2002; This step is justified on the one hand with the change to the Socket 478, which made the entire old Socket 423 Pentium 4 family uninteresting for the general public, on the other hand, Intel states that the Pentium 4 2, 0 GHz for the Socket 478 was replaced by the Pentium 4 2.0A GHz with Northwood core. All in all, this step is by no means surprising.
