Inno3D Tornado GeForce3 Ti500 in the test: Against the ATi Radeon 8500
Max Payne uses the Max-FX engine, as it was already used in 3DMark2001. There are tough demands on the hardware, as very complex and expensive 3D effects are used. Despite some DirectX 8.0 functions used, static T&L according to DirectX 7.0 is still used. The PCGH benchmark mod was used with the VGA demo as a time demo; the program was only available in 32-bit color depth, with 32-bit textures. The achieved frame rates may seem a bit low to one or the other - the bench is really that tough!
Strangely enough, significantly worse values for Max Payne were achieved on the test system with the Detonator 23.11 than with the Detonator 21.83, so the Radeon 8500 takes over the Leadership in this benchmark. However, the small differences in performance between the GeForce3 cards are interesting. Only from a resolution of 1280x1024 does the difference fall due to thedifferent clock frequencies. Here the GeForce3 Ti 500 also outperforms the Radeon 8500 LE.
