Infineon is sticking to construction projects

As the 'Welt am Sonntag' reports in today's issue, the chip manufacturer Infineon will stick to its construction project in Neubiberg near Munich despite the current critical market situation. A new company headquarters for around 7000 employees is to be built for around one billion DM by late summer 2003 at 62h.

In view of the fact that Infineon has been employing 2500 workers for six months in the Munich area alone for cost reasons in the past few weeks has sent in short-time work and is also planning a total of 5000 jobs to be cut, certainly a daring and questionable undertaking. The project will be presented for the first time on Friday by CEO Ulrich Schumacher.
