Improved performance of VIA KT266
There won't be a new revision of the VIA KT266 chipset for socket A after all. The performance weaknesses of the chip should be able to be remedied with a simple BIOS update.
In addition, the boards are probably in the layout 'reengineered', ie that the layout is revised. In connection with the BIOS update that VIA developed itself, this should then bring better performance. In the first tests, the performance of the SiSoft Sandra memory test was more than doubled. But also in Quake3 an increase of 34% was achieved! Mind you, the chipset was not changed, just the BIOS and the board layout. We can only hope that the performance gain is noticeable on all boards and not just on some. The above values initially only refer to the Shuttle AK31, which was tested in revision 1 and revision 2. However, the BIOS is accessible to all manufacturers, so that it will probably also be used on other boards. When buying a Shuttle AK31, however, you should definitely pay attention to revision 2.
