IDF: 30 GHz processor from Intel, but not until 2017
At the IDF, the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, CEO Craig Barret announced that it would bring a 30 GHz processor onto the market in 15 years. The processor will then be built using 0.01 micron technology on a 450 millimeter wafer. If you consider that Intel only recently switched from 0.18 micron technology to 0.13 micron technology, that's a huge leap.
By switching from 0.13 micron CPUs to According to Intel, 300 millimeter wafers compared to 200 millimeter wafers saves 40 percent energy and water. The production costs are reduced by 30 percent.
