Hercules Prophet 4500 in the test: The Kyro2 compared to the GeForce

Since the speed of the Hercules Prophet 4500 has now been extensively tested in games, we wanted to take a closer look at the normal application performance of the graphics card. The Systemmark 2000 was used here, with which numerous office applications are executed as quickly as possible. Anyone who thinks that all cards are equally fast here is wrong.

As you can see from this graphic, the GeForce2 MX based graphics card can clearly set itself apart from the competition, especially on the fast Pentium III 600 system. Even if the distance is really not that big, you can definitely make a gradation.

Overclocking

Since the card is equipped with the fast 5ns graphics memory by default, which should theoretically have a clock rate of 200MHz, and the cooling of the graphics chip with the Orb-like fan should also be more than guaranteed Hope that you can get a lot more out of 3D Prophet 4500. During the test it was possible to overclock the card from the 175MHz standard clock to 190 and 195MHz. The card was still extremely stable with these settings, but the overclocking backfired here, so that the card was slower than normal during prolonged use. The chip just got too warm, although the memory could have withstood more. However, since the memory and chip clocks can only be increased synchronously, i.e. not independently of each other in both cases, the chip prevents successful overclocking to a large extent. For this reason, we have used the following speed comparisons with a chip and memory clock of 185Mhz. The Pentium III 600 was used as the test system.

Since overclocking the Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 on the slow system has little effect, because the card is too dependent on the processor due to the lack of T&L unit we limited ourselves to a few games for the comparison values.

As you can see quite clearly on Quake 3, increasing the memory and chip speed brings very little . The Hercules may scale wonderfully with the processor, but if there is not enough computing power available, overclocking the card is of little use.
