Hercules Prophet 4500 in the test: The Kyro2 compared to the GeForce

The 3DMark clearly belongs to the classic DirectX benchmarks rks. In the development of 3DMark 2001, compared to the previous version, they took more time than ever before and spared no effort to integrate special tests for graphics functions that are not used by any available game, but specifically the capabilities of the GeForce 3 in come to the fore. We're talking about the nature scenes that really use all the effects of DirectX 8 and whose development alone took many weeks. As with the previous versions, the MAX-FX engine from Remedy Entertainment was used as the graphics engine for the 3D demos in 3DMark 2001, which will also be used in the highly anticipated action game Max Payne. A part of a Max Payne scene can be seen in the third game benchmark of 3DMark 2001, the values ​​of which we have given for this reason in addition to the actual 3DMark result.

The scores of 3DMark 2001 do not bode well. The GeForce2 MX is clearly superior in all resolutions with a color depth of 16Bit, the Kyro2, on the other hand, wrestles with the old TNT2Pro. However, since these are purely theoretical values, they should not be given too much importance.

With the frame rates in Game3, part of 3DMark 2001, the Prophet 4500 can only assert itself in the maximum possible resolution of the benchmark, which is in all other resolutions the GeForce2MX clearly ahead. It is also noticeable here that the performance of the Kyro2 card is almost unchanged in all resolutions.

Also on the faster P entium III 600 shows a similar picture. The Kyro2 can now set itself apart from the TNT2Pro, but it is sometimes half as powerful as the GeForce2MX. The performance is almost the same in all resolutions.

That the Kyro 32Bit is a bit better is also shown in 3DMark2001. Although its performance is still not enough to come close to the GeForce2 in resolutions between 640x480 and 1024x768, the picture can only change in higher resolutions. Due to the twice as large memory expansion of the Kyro2, it can easily handle the high resolutions and the complex textures of 3DMark.

Even with a faster system changes the sheet only slightly. The 3DMark Results are still very bad compared to the GeForce2MX, only in Game3 the performance is halfway convincing. It's good that this value can represent a future game to some extent. In the normal desktop resolution of 1024x768, the GeForce2MX and Kyro2 are almost identical, on the slow system nVidia was still five frames ahead of the test, on the 150MHz faster system it is only one frame and on even faster systems the Kyro2 will clearly take the upper hand in this discipline. All in all, the 3DMark developed in cooperation with nVidia and Intel is not for the Hercules 3D Prophet 4500.
