GeForce3 first in Power Macs
At the opening speech of the MacWorld Expo in Tokyo, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that the new NVidia GeForce3 graphics chip will first be used in a Macintosh. Graphics cards with the GeForce3 chip should be available as a build-to-order option as early as the end of March or the beginning of April.
The GeForce3 chip is made up of 57 million transistors and with 76 gigaflops enables the fastest graphics cards currently available gives. It is now possible for the first time to handle lighting, shadows, textures and color all elements of a display simultaneously and in real time. A GeForce3 graphics card will probably be available in a new computer for an additional charge of 350 US dollars. Individually, the price should be 600 US dollars.
