GeForce 2 chip has been modified
According to the latest findings, NVidia will add two new chips to its GeForce 2 Go family. The originally planned chip is now being replaced by two smaller versions, the GeForce 2 Go 100 and the GeForce 2 Go 200. The differences:
The originally planned chip had an edge length of 36 mm, the two new chips have now has an edge length of only 23 mm. It should be clear that some features have to be dispensed with. It is still unclear which feature will be rationalized away. Speculations point to the elimination of the T&L or the texturing unit, but the relatively high power consumption of 2.8W remains. One reason for the downsizing is likely to be the competition with ATI, whose Radeon Mobility Chip could be dangerous for the GeForce 2 Go.
