Games industry with positive year-end results
After the catastrophic statistics of the year 2000, the games industry can certainly look back on the numbers for the year to come with pride. As the NPD Group reports in a recent study, sales rose from 4.7 billion US dollars to 6.4 billion US dollars.
In particular, the new consoles such as Playstation 2 and Microsoft's XBox have stood out here highlighted as a key driver. In the global top 10 games, six places are occupied by PS2 titles alone. First up is Metal Gear Solid 2, Halo still landed in fourth place despite its extremely late release. However, if one looks at the German games market in isolation, the figures in this country are again in the red in the third quarter. The turnover increased again by 6%, overall 0.7% fewer games were sold than in the crisis year 2000.
