In Memmingen, thanks to a pilot project, around 1800 residents have been able to access the Internet via the TV cable connection benefit. The residents 'only' have to pay a flat rate of 69 marks per month and offer transfer rates of up to 2 Mbit/s in both directions. Internet access is then around 30 times faster than an ISDN B-channel (64 kBit/s). The pilot project was initiated by the cable network operator EWT Communications, the Memmingen housing association MEWO and the company 3Com. The cable modems and the concentrators in the cable headends are of course from 3Com.
