First step to 0.03 microns
A consortium of industry and research has succeeded in completing the prototype of a new production factory that enables the construction of semiconductors with a size of just 0.03 µm. At the moment, the minimum of the optical resolution in production is more than four times 0.13 µm (GeForce3 0.15 µm).
This ensures the continued existence and further development of today's CPUs for the time being, The extremely thin conductor tracks not only allow more units to be concentrated in a smaller space, but also, thanks to lower power requirements, higher cycle rates with less waste heat. The consortium includes companies such as Intel, Motorola, AMD, Micron, Infineon and IBM.
