First benchmarks from the Thoroughbred

According to the latest rumors, the new Athlon XP with Thoroughbred core will be officially presented in three days, on May 2nd. It is still unclear whether AMD will actually keep this deadline. A Taiwanese website has now published the first benchmarks of the new processor.

Tested were the Athlon XP 1700+ and 1800+ with the 0.13 µm Thoroughbred core and a core voltage of 1 , 6 volts. Both models were able to assert themselves against their Palomino predecessors with the same clock. The result is not surprising, however. In terms of measurement errors, the processors are equally fast in a direct comparison. This is not surprising when you consider that not much has changed in the architecture of the Thoroughbred. Due to the low power loss of the Thoroughbred core, it can achieve higher clock rates than the Palomino core.
