First benchmark result of the Pentium 4

A first benchmark result for the Intel Pentium 4 leaked out at the IDF. The 1.4 GHz Pentium 4 is supposed to be around 50% faster than the 1 GHz Pentium III in the Windows Media Encoder from the SYSMark 2000 benchmark suite.

The Pentium 3 scores 188 points at 1 GHz, the Athlon-Thunderbird 1GHz comes to 202 points and the P4 should then be 280 points. Since only this result has been leaked so far, there's not much that can be said about the overall performance as other important benchmarks are still missing. In addition: this result does not come from any Intel-independent test. In any case, it remains exciting to see how the Pentium 4 will fare overall against the Athlon and Pentium III.
