Faster iBooks from Apple
In addition to the expensive Powerbook G4 notebook series from Apple, there are also the cheaper iBooks. These are now available in faster versions. The main difference to its predecessors is the new Radeon Mobility graphics chip from ATI.
The next major update will be in the summer for Mac OS X appear. This version 10.2 will include Quartz Extreme, an accelerated user interface based on OpenGL. Since the ATI Rage 128 Mobility graphics chips with 8 Mbyte memory are not suitable for Quartz Extreme, the much faster Radeon Mobility Chip is built into the newer iBooks. The chip has 16 Mbytes of memory available. The other difference to the predecessors are the CPUs. The 600 MHz and 700 MHz versions of the G3 have, in contrast to their predecessors with 256 Kbytes, a 512 Kbyte L2 cache. This is addressed with the full CPU cycle. The new notebooks are available in the US Apple Store for $ 1199 to $ 1799.
