Europe with 8 million high-speed connections

According to Parks Associates, there are around eight million 'high-speed Internet connections' in Europe with a bandwidth of 256 kbit/s or more. In the USA this number is around 16 million, in Japan it is five million.

While in Germany the majority of Internet users who are not in the DSL area would certainly switch to DSL immediately if they were available 42 percent of American customers do without such a broadband connection or 32 percent the connection is too expensive, which is certainly due to the narrowband flat rates widely available there. In Japan, on the other hand, there is almost a run on the broadband Internet, because half a million customers there exchange their modems every month for a significantly faster access.
