DVD successor with 140 Gbyte
At the Comdex in Las Vegas, Constellation 3D presented its fluorescent multilayer disk, which can hold up to 140 Gbytes. The fluorescent multilayer technology (FMT) works on the same principle as the DVD.
However, the FMD can have over 10 layers per side, as opposed to only 2 layers per side on the DVD. By the end of 2001 there should also be writable media with the FMT. For the time being, there will only be read-only media with the new technology.
