DVD prices and country code wrong?
According to information from the Financial Times Deutschland, the EU Commission is currently investigating the high DVD prices. The question of whether the country codes of DVDs are allowed is also being investigated.
According to further information from the newspaper, Mario Monti, EU Competition Commissioner, will explain during a speech in Stockholm this Monday that Brussels is Hollywood companies are demanding an explanation of their pricing policy. DVDs are often cheaper in the US, but because of the country codes, consumers in Europe often cannot benefit from them. The EU Commission is now investigating whether the companies are behaving in an anti-competitive manner with their methods. Already in previous conversations, Monti said that the line between property protection and the exploitation of a dominant market position is very thin.
