DVD overtakes VHS
Sales of video DVDs continued to rise compared to the previous year. The sales volume could also be brought above the value of VHS cassettes. According to this, around 477.2 million D-Marks were generated with DVDs by the third quarter of 2001.
Video DVDs are becoming more and more successful. This is also proven by a statement by the Federal Video Association, BVV for short, according to which in the course of the year sales of around 477.2 million marks were achieved with the sale of DVDs. With this, the DVD has already overtaken the VHS cassette (sales: approx. 444.1 million marks) in the third quarter. This means an increase in sales of 32.6 percent compared to the same period last year. The rental business also benefits from the silver discs: In the third quarter of the current year, around every eighth mark (12.9 percent) was earned from the rental of digital video data carriers.
