Not much can be said about the result here either. Using the new core, both processor series can make up a good four images per second on their predecessor series with the same clock rate. The Duron is even 1.2 GHzable to outperform an Athlon 1.2 GHz, although it has to enter the race with a lower FSB. However, the clear winner with 50 frames per second is the Athlon XP 1700+. 1.41 frames in front of his little brother 1600+.

Lame

The second discipline in encoding was the dynamic conversion of a 200 MB WAV file into MP3 audio format. The Lame 3.90 program was used for this, which supports both MMX and 3DNow! and SSE1 fully supported. The program was started with the parameters -v -V 0. This creates an MP3 file with a variable bit rate between 160 kbps and 320 kbps.

Here, too, the Athlon XP 1700+ can win the race. Unusually, the Athlon 1.4 GHz can beat its successor, the Athlon XP 1600+, with the same clock rate, or at least beat it.
