Duron 950 to Athlon XP 1.7+ in the test: AMD processor Roundup

Seti @ Home

We are particularly proud of the inclusion of the text client from Seti @ Home (3.03) in our comparison test. Due to the long runtime, you should get a clear picture of the performance of the individual processors.

Seti @ Home

As you can clearly see at this point, Seti @ Home belongs to the new Duron and the Athlon XP. Due to the data hardware prefetching, the effect of which is particularly evident in the memory and FSB-limited SETI, the Duron 1.2 GHz is capable of a complete SETIWork unit faster than an Athlon with a Thunberbird core and 1400MHz. This confirms the excellent performance of the Duron from the entire Sandra test run. Even if the Athlon XP 1700+ wins the race here, the new Duron is undoubtedly one of the winners.

SuperPI

The SuperPI benchmark is suitable for a very old application however, it is still quite good at determining the performance of processors in computing operations. In order not to prolong the calculation time unnecessarily, we have limited ourselves to the calculation of the first million decimal places of the number Pi. The result was a 1.5 MB text file listing the positions.

SuperPI

All in all a very good result for the palomino and morgan core. The result from SETI @ Home is hereby confirmed again. As far as arithmetic operations are concerned, the new processors have increased their performance significantly. Here, too, the performance rating is confirmed once again.

WinACE

In order to further clarify the sense and nonsense of a faster processor for frequently used applications, we used WinACE in the version 2.11 approach. The task of the program was to pack a 200 MB WAV audio file at the maximum compression level (at 4096k) as an ACE file.

WinACE 2.11

Not much new here either. The Duron can clearly show its superiority over its predecessor with the same clock. And at least the Duron 1.2 is able to overtake the Athlon 1.0 GHz. In a direct comparison with a 1.2 GHz Athlon, however, the Athlon decides this test due to the larger L2 cache and thehigher FSB for yourself. Again the winner is, to everyone's surprise, the Athlon XP 1700+.
