Duron 950 to Athlon XP 1.7+ in the test: AMD processor Roundup
Quake 3 Arena
Quake3 Arena only uses OpenGL. The first person shooter is characterized by a large number of polygons and complex scenarios. Since many games are based on the Quake III engine, the tests with Quake III are very practical. In addition to the demo 001 already included in Quake 1.17, we also used the NV15 demo from nVidia, which loads the processor to the utmost. The tests were carried out with the normal config as well as with a custom config (16 bit, low texture details, high geometic detail)
The frame rates scale wonderfully with the clock frequency of the processor. Here, too, the performance rating is confirmed in all tested resolutions using two different configs. Here, too, the new Duron does not come close to the old Athlon.
There are no surprises with the NV15 demo either. However, the gap between Duron (Morgan) and Athlon (Thunderbird) has grown a lot. As expected, the winner in Quake 3 is the Athlon XP 1700+.
