Dual Pentium 4 chipset from VIA
There are new rumors about VIA, allegedly the new mainboard chipset P4X333 will be presented at CeBit. Allegedly it is supposed to be a dual processor chipset for the non-dual processor capable Pentium 4 processors.
Despite the still smoldering legal disputes VIA continues with the development of the Pentium 4 chipsets. The P4X333 should already support 533 MHz FSB, dual-channel PC2700 DDR-RAM, AGP 8x, Ultra-DMA133 and USB 2.0. Although, according to Intel, the Pentium 4 processors are not suitable for dual processor use, VIA probably wants to offer a solution for low-cost servers here. Intel only offers the Pentium 4 Xeon with Socket603, which however has a few more features than the normal Pentium 4. However, the corresponding Socket603 mainboards cost well over € 500.
