Dresden is 'Fab of the year'
The industry magazine Semiconductor International has declared AMD's Dresden semiconductor factory Fab 30 'Fab of the Year'. It is the tenth time that the publication has awarded this title and the third time that an AMD plant has received this award.
One of the reasons given for this honor was that Fab 30 was the first semiconductor plant of the world that was specially designed for the production of chips using copper. It was also emphasized that the speed with which new process technologies were introduced and processes were ramped up were also decisive for this choice. In June 2000, the Dresden plant began shipping Athlon processors to the world market and several million processors have already left the plant.
