Detailed X-Box prices

Since a few days it has been possible to pre-order the X-Box from Comtech, which will be available in stores from March 14th, 2002. At 479.99 euros, the price is within what consoleros willing to buy have been able to adjust to a few weeks after the prices were officially confirmed.

The basic package only includes the console itself, a controller, AV connection cable and the power supply unit. If you want to buy a second controller for multiplayer games, you have to shell out an additional 39.99 euros. The DVD playback kit, which you can use to watch DVDs on your television at home, costs 49.99 euros. A system link cable that can be used to connect two X-Boxes is also not included in the basic package and costs 29.99 euros, an 8Mb storage unit for storing games is 49.99 euros. Overall, the X-Box is likely to be a very expensive affair, since games cannot be purchased for less than 69.99 euros and you have to pay dearly for every additional feature. Even if the prices should be below those of Comtech shortly after the market launch, there is a risk that Microsoft will miss the typical console buyer layer, somal on May 3rd, Nintendo's Gamecube will be on the retail shelves for 249 euros.
