DDR SDRAM more expensive than Rambus
Instead of falling in price, DDR SDRAM is even becoming more and more expensive at the moment. It is now more expensive than Rambus storage. At the moment, PC800 RDRAM costs around 164 US dollars, while PC2100 DDR SDRAM costs 179 US dollars.
The cheapest is currently PC133 SDRAM, which costs only 38 dollars. DDR SDRAM should actually only cost 5% more than SDRAM, but now you pay 4 times as much with only about 15% gain in performance, which is not always achieved. If DDR SDRAM doesn't get cheaper, DDR systems will have a hard time asserting themselves on the market.
