Crypto processor for the BSI
TU Darmstadt has been commissioned by the BSI (Federal Office for Information Security), based in Bonn, to develop an encryption processor. The professors Johannes Buchman and Sorin Huss are supposed to develop a processor for high-speed encryption.
The main focus is on encrypting the data absolutely securely and in the shortest possible time. The crypto processor developed exclusively for the BSI is to be integrated on a reconfigurable chip architecture. Furthermore, the length of the code key will be variable. With this development contract, which is worth 100,000 euros, the BSI wants to better secure the transmission of sensitive data in public networks. The development should then be completed in a year.
